Balmain Sinfonia is continuing its Young Soloists program, collaborating with Rising Stars at the Con this year to offer performance opportunities to outstanding young woodwind players.
We are very excited to announce the selection of a soloist from Rising Stars to perform in our first concert of 2027 (Fanfares & Farewells).
Mia Wang (aged 13) will play the Flute Concerto by Carl Reinecke, op. 283.
All the students we auditioned showed exceptional skill and musicality. Had this been purely a competition, it would have been extremely challenging, even impossible, to decide a winner.
Our ultimate decision had to take many personal and practical factors into account besides playing quality, including how the works would fit into our own programming, and unfortunately we have only one opportunity to offer at this time.
We congratulate all the young woodwind players who participated, and hope to be able to offer more performance opportunities in coming years.
