Balmain Sinfonia is a Sydney-based symphony orchestra. Our aim is to bring high quality orchestral music to the community at affordable prices. Many gifted players, amateurs and professionals, give freely of their time to achieve this aim.
The orchestra generally plays music from the mainstream repertoire. However, we’re also known to throw in a few surprises to keep things lively and interesting! In 2023 we will be featuring a work by an Australian composer at each of our concerts.
We play our concerts at the Salvation Army Congress Hall in Sydney. The venue is very close to Museum station. We hope you can come and enjoy one of our shows soon!
Our Conductor and Musical Director is Monica Buckland. She arrived in Australia in 2020 after forging a distinguished career as a conductor in Switzerland, Germany and the UK.
The Balmain Sinfonia are approaching the end of a program of 5 concerts for 2022. Our final concert of the year is ‘A Night at the Ballet’ on 10 December. The performance features some wonderful tunes associated with dance. We hope our audience will be delighted by a selection of favourites, including Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite!
We are happy to announce that we have planned our 2023 concert program! The program will consist of 4 themed concerts across the year. We have decided to feature an Australian composer’s work at each show. The year will commence with ‘Viennese Gems’ on 25 March, featuring music connected to Vienna. See the ‘concerts’ section to view the schedule for the whole year.
Come and join us
We are often looking for talented musicians to join us. At the moment, we are especially interested to hear from violin, viola & double bass players. If you have orchestral experience and can play at at least at a Grade 7 level, then get in touch with us at email@example.com. We are a friendly and enthusiastic group who rehearse on Sunday evenings in Balmain.
